Common Names: Thornapple, recurved

Plant Form: Large annual to perennial herb. Size: Up to 1 m tall, spreading out up to 2 m across. Stem: Forking repeatedly, greyish-hairy. Leaves: Simple or sometimes lobed near base, egg to oval shaped, to 20 x 12 cm, with smooth edges. Flowers: White, 12-19 cm long, trumpet-shaped. Fruit and Seeds: Capsule spherical 3-5 cm across, on curved stalk, with regular spines up to 1 cm long, releasing yellowish to brown seeds. Habitat: Disturbed sites, farmland, roadsides. Distinguishing Features: Differs from Long-spined thornapple (Datura ferox) and Common thornapple (D. stramonium) by having capsules on curved stalks and brown to yellow seeds. Impacts: Toxic to stock and humans, competes with crop species.
