Common Names: Scottish Maple

Plant Form: Moderate to large tree. Size: Up to 35 m tall. Stem: Smooth greyish bark, turning scaly, reddish and flaky with age. Leaves: Large dark or bluish green 7-30 cm long with paler underside. Leathery and with 3-5 deep lobes. Shed in autumn after turning yellow or brownish. Flowers: Inconspicuous yellow or greenish and small, in drooping clusters. Fruit and Seeds: Distinctive v-shaped with prominent wings. Reddish or green maturing to brown. Habitat: Old gardens, riparian areas, wet forests, wastelands.
