Cenchrus pennisetiformis

Common Names: Buffel grass

Plant Form: Perennial tussock grass. Size: Up to 1.5 m tall. Leaves: Flat blades up to 30 cm long. Flowers: In dense, cylindrical spike. Habitat: Rangelands, grasslands, open woodlands, waste areas. Distinguishing Features: Extremely similar to Buffel grass (Cenchrus ciliaris) and was until recently considered the same species. May be distinguished by spikelet bristles being fused at the base.
