Bromus diandrus

Common Names: Great brome, Brome grass

Plant Form: Annual tussock grass. Size: Up to 1 m tall. Stem: Erect, narrow, drooping more with age. Leaves: Rough, flat, blades 10-25 cm long, with some hairs. With prominent membrane where they join the stem. Flowers: Compacted in head which is erect initially but begins to droop with age. Fruit and Seeds: Overlapping, rigid and rough, with very long and rough awns 35-60 mm long. Habitat: Pasture, grasslands, woodlands, riparian areas. Distinguishing Features: Virtually impossible to distinguish from Rigid brome (Bromus rigidus). Would need expert advice.
