Common Names: Yellow burrhead

Plant Form: Upright aquatic herb. Size: Up to 1 m tall. Stem: Short, stout. Leaves: Thick, bright green oval shaped leaf blade with pointed tip up to 30 cm long, with 11-15 longitudional veins. Flowers: Cup shaped 2-4 cm across, with yellow centre to whitish outer, in clusters of 2-15 on the end of stalks 3-7 cm long. Fruit and Seeds: Spherical capsules up to 2 cm diameter divided into crescent-shaped sections with numerous horseshoe-shaped brown seeds. Habitat: Ponds, swamps, wetlands, ditches, dam edges. Distinguishing Features: Generally smaller flowerheads than others in the Alistmataceae family. Has wider leaves than NT native plant Butomopsis latifolia. Impacts: Outcompetes and replaces native vegetation and habitat, provides breeding ground for mosquitoes, alters water flow, reduces rice productivity.
