Synonyms: Bryophyllum species
Plant Form: Upright succulent herbs. Size: 30-180 cm tall. Stem: Hairless, mostly unbranched, fleshy, grey, sometimes with darker patches. Leaves: Pencil-shaped bale green to pale brown, often with dark green patches. With shallow grooves on the upper sections. Have projections on the ends which can break off to form new plants. Flowers: Orange-red, drooping bell-shaped, in cluster, at the top of a single stem. Fruit and Seeds: Dry, papery, encased in old flower parts, about 1 cm long. Containing numerous minute brown seeds. Habitat: Coastal headlands, pastures, roadsides, waste areas, old gardens, open woodlands.
