Common Names: Kalanchoe Synonyms: Bryophyllum pinnatum
Plant Form: Upright fleshy perennial herb. Size: 30-120 cm tall. Stem: Erect, hairless. Leaves: Fleshy, singular or compound of 3 or 5 leaflets, oppositely arranged, flattened, oval shaped with wavy edges. Green and occasionally reddish. Flowers: Bell shaped, drooping on single stems, in clusters up to 7 cm long, yellowish or pale green with pink or reddish blotches. Fruit and Seeds: Papery, membranous capsules with 4 compartments each with numerous seeds. Habitat: Gardens, parks, roadsides, railway lines, waste areas. Distinguishing Features: Similar to Bryophyllum species but differs in combination of features. Impacts: Toxic to livestock and humans, forms dense clusters outcompeting native understory species.
