Asparagus declinatus

Common Names: Bridal veil creeper

Plant Form: Perennial climber. Size: Up to 3 m long. Stem: Wiry. Short, green shoots form pseudo-leaves (cladodes) replacing true leaves. Leaves: Reduced, scale-like, replaced by cladodes 3-20 mm long, greyish-green, in groups of three. Flowers: Solitary or in pairs, greenish to white, with six petal-like tepals, with stalks 5-11 mm long. Fruit and Seeds: Whitish or blue-grey, spherical to egg-shaped berries with 2-14 seeds. Habitat: Bushland, woodlands, streams, roadsides, coastal habitats. Distinguishing Features: Similar to other Asparagus species but has cladodes grouped in threes, and distinctive whitish to blue-grey coloured berries. Impacts: Smothers and outcompetes native vegetation.
