Common Names: Perennial mission grass

Plant Form: Perennial tussock grass. Size: Up to 3 m tall. Stem: Upright, sometimes produce roots at lower joints. Leaves: Blades 10-40 cm long. Flowers: Compact in long cylindrical spike-like head. Surrounded by feathery bristles. Fruit and Seeds: Yellow to brownish or straw-coloured with maturity. Retain surrounding bristles even after they have fallen. Habitat: Roadsides, cropping land, grasslands, woodlands, waste areas. Distinguishing Features: Very similar to other Cenchrus species. May be distinguished by angular seed head and hairy bristles surrounding seeds.
