Toxicodendron succedaneum

Common Names: Rhus tree

Plant Form: Small to medium size deciduous tree. Size: Up to 10 m tall, usually 2-5 m. Stem: Grey with vertical markings. Leaves: Bright green and greyish underneath, alternate on branches, consist of 9-15 lance to egg-shaped leaflets with single leaflet at end of branch. Change to red in winter. Flowers: Creamy white to yellowish green, clustered into flowering heads. Fruit and Seeds: Pale brown, round to egg shaped to 1 cm diameter with hard central stone. Habitat: Roadsides, wasteland, woodland edges. Distinguishing Features: Distinguished from similar trees mainly by the single end leaflet and leaves going red in winter. Impacts: All parts of plant toxic and can cause severe allergic reactions.
